The STD they get eventually won't go away so easily. Look, nobody's really out to make giant abortion factories. People that are pro-choice have two common concepts down pat: 1) people will get abortions, legally or not (or by choice or not), and 2) if they do, they should be safe for the mother. Typical American anti-abortion protesters are the ilk that think if it's banned, then nobody will ever get one -- completely ignoring history and the high mortality rate of "back alley" abortions. Of course, most of those same people are rather anti-woman and women's rights.

A friend of mine got me into this. We were just buddies at first, sharing a common interest. He was doing business in Russia, and let me know there was an opportunity which I took on a whim and it paid off.

I started with pretty much 0. I had a little bit of cash from a previous business, but I had no intention of putting any of my own money into what I thought was a very risky plan. I'm a fully self-made man though, started out in the world with nothing. College drop-out - started my first business as soon as I started college, and by the 4th year it was so successful and was taking up so much of my time I just couldn't spare any time to take classes even on weekends.

St Pete is not as expensive as Moscow. I don't know, millions of people survive even in Moscow on less than 500 bucks a month, but that of course is just scrapping by. I guess you could live pretty comfortably on say 2 - 3 grand a month if don't go all "elitny". If you want to live large, you'll think nothing of spending 10-20 grand a week.

I'd like to offer my sincerest "piss off" to all you Reddit novelty accounts out there. I don't care if anyone agrees with me - just saying if I see another stupid gimmicky account that's existed for 4 hours and already has 200 "clever" comments I'll... I'll... whine and complain and mutter under my breath because ultimately there's nothing I can do about it.

*edit - unless, of course, others agree with me and we can agree to downvote any and all comments by said novelty users. But that presumes I'm not a hypersensitive crotchety old man-boy who is figuratively spraying the novelty account children with the hose to get them off his lawn (which is actually a public playground, and I a senile geezer).

So, outrage at the crime of drugging and raping an underage girl is "another American Puritan thing".

    Where do I begin?

    1. I'm guessing you don't have any kids.

    2. You apparently think that the woman's alleged lack of concern now is evidence that it did not have profound psychological effects on her during her youth. There is no way it did not have deep consequences throughout her entire life, no matter if she recognized them, or not.

    3. You must not be aware of what Polanski was doing during those years, with whom, and why. The social scene of which he was a part has quite a trail of bodies, and the Manson Family was only part of it. You would not believe how many major celebrities from that crowd and that era were either silent about, or present at, many events at which someone died.

    4. You must think all criminals give up their predatory inclinations simply through some imaginarily therapeutic passage of time. This makes being a successful, long-term fugitive from the law the same as actually being punished, which cannot be argued to be just in any court. Statutes of limitations are not so vague and forgiving.

    5. If this is what you call "an American Puritan thing", then count me in. Whatever. I'll go buy some pilgrim clothes, complete with buckled shoes, soon as possible. I'll drive a wagon and curse at machines.

    6. Get off my homestead!

The answer to this question is as varied as the lighting and landscape that I am photographing. There is no one correct answer. I almost always use a polarizing filter to saturate the colors. If I am including objects close to me in the foreground of the scene I will use a small aperture of 16 or 22 to keep everything in focus. I will also bracket each scene by 1 stop above and one stop below what the meter says. This can sometimes produce a pleasing exposure. As far as books go I would suggest any that deal extensively on photographic composition. As stated below learning to see the scene in terms of the principles of composition is 80% of the battle.

Well, aside from not being on the team that implemented it, I wouldn't do it. But, as much as I don't like it, it's not my network or computer, so that's that. I just do my banking at home exclusively.

edit: On followup, the problem is that out of the 350,000+ employees who potentially can use the network (many of whom do not have regular access, but the PCs are available for training, etc), only ~2500 are IT. The rest are scared of their computers and believe those popups when they say the machine is infected.

Same Grok. At the age of 17, living with my girlfriend, I had the exact same thing happen to me. 3 demons in the room and one sitting on my chest keeping me from moving (even breathing or moving my eyes). One had the body of a cat and the face of a bat, another seemed to be about 6 foot and built out of rock covered in pigskin leather it seemed. The 3rd was a slimmer version of it, and when they all noticed me noticing them for the first time, the most terrifying laughter from all of them like I'd never heard before in my life. I was never able to explain it until I learned of Sleep Paralysis. Fuck.that.shit.

when I was 11 I was the only one at home, it was a nice summer morning, I was sitting on the roof reading a book, i heard the garden door clinck closed, then I saw a woman walk between two barn buildings onto pathway that lead to the garden, I could see the part she walked in and the garden part she was supposed to walk out into, only she never walked out into the garden, I climbed down, run to the pathway and then realized that the door leading to the garden was locked with a hook on inside - this woman walked into a closed hallway and never walked out... I then also remembered that she was a bit see through... I think she was my grand aunt who lived very close to us and died a few years earlier

I agree with all the people who are saying people die every day, what makes this kid special? This kid deserves no media attention. I'm a very important person. My headlines must have vast deep meaning to all of mankind, nay! The entire galaxy!

I'd say the only thing that makes this story worth anything is that I commented on it. Which is the real tragedy here. I had to waste the most valuable time in the world, mine, to both read it and to comment about it not being worth reading. It is sad... ok now I'm tearing up a bit.

The thing that makes me think on this subject (and I have thought about it since car manufacturers started using robots en masse in the 80s) is that for every job created for software engineers, robot maintainers, etc., 100 production jobs are lost (not researched numbers, just rhetorical).

Also, it is true that there will always be the "boutique" market, but fewer and fewer people can afford these premium products as evidenced by the climb in the GINI (an index for measuring income inequality).

Please use legal sites whenever you can, without adblock, as this will encourage content creators to post more and more content to legal online sites like Hulu, which is great for those of us that don't like paying Comcast $100 a month for the privilege of rotting our brains. Of course, if you can't find it anywhere that is legal, I always say it's the content creator's fault for not making it accessible and therefore it's open season on the torrents.

Edit: Not sure why I'm being downvoted; people make their livings making televisions shows. I'm not saying don't watch illegally, I'm just saying at least take a few minutes to look for a legal alternative first that might actually encourage media companies to put high quality versions of their work online.

Two things come to mind that have creeped me out very thoroughly. Sorry if this gets a bit long.

    1) When I was about 5 or 6, I had a fair sized collection of stuffed animals. To keep everything tidy, my mom decided to hang a long chain from a hook in the ceiling, and pinned all my stuffed animals to the chain by their ears. One of the stuffed animals was a panda with red eyes, given to me by my dad when I was born. The red eyes creeped me out like nobody’s business. At night I would see this panda “looking” at me. I knew it was out to get me. One night I had enough, and after gathering up enough courage I darted out of bed, ran to the chain, and turned the panda away from me. Upon waking up, the first thing I see is the panda facing me again, red eyes glaring. This goes on for many many nights; every night I turn the panda away, and every morning the panda is staring right at me with malice in its red eyes. Only a few years ago did I relate this to my mom, and it turns out she was the one who turned it back every night. She always wondered why I turned it away, but didn’t bother asking and instead just adjusted it nightly. Thanks, mom.

    2) The second thing isn’t as easily explained. I had received a child’s sewing machine as a gift from my grandmother who lived far away. Excited to try my hand at sewing, I plug it in, and… it doesn’t work. My parents both fiddle with it and no matter what they do it just won’t work. That sucks, looks like I got a lemon. We pack it up and put it away in a small storage cabinet in my room. A few nights after trying to use the sewing machine, I woke up to a horribly loud clattering noise coming from my storage cabinet. It sounded like death itself was a spider with metal legs who was doing his darndest to chitter out of that cabinet collect my soul. I screamed and screamed and my parents came rushing into my room. The clattering puttered out, then started again. My parents open the cabinet to investigate, and they realized that the sewing machine was going off. It was completely packed up, not plugged in, no source of power to the unit. It eventually stopped, and somehow I managed to get back to sleep. The next day we tried to use it. Again, it didn’t work. Over the next few months it would randomly go off while it was in storage, scaring the living shit out of me each time, and eventually I think my parents threw it out. Also, potentially of note, around the time I got my sewing machine, my parents would wake up at night and hear what sounded like a woman with a rustling nightgown walk around their bed. They originally never discussed it with each other because they didn’t want to sound crazy, but one day long after we had moved from that house, they both realized they had heard the footsteps. I never heard them myself, so I cannot vouch for the veracity of this, but I trust my parents and they were pretty freaked out about it (even though they agreed they never felt like they were under any threat).

That kind of tough because I have 2 younger kids who I take care of after school. My schedule now allows me to take them to school, go to my own classes and be done by the time they get out.

It is looking more and more like I'll have to cut back to just 2 or 3 days a week and work the other days. I hate to do that because that would mean I will still be in school when my older kid is ready for college in 2 years, then I'll have to quit altogether to fund him. If I can stay on full-time, I can graduate before it's his turn.

Thanks for the suggestion. I hope I can work this out.

I dont have a long term girlfriend, nor do i want one until i can get a solid job.

The 'macho, powerful, dominant' crap works on dumb girls pretty much and it has more to do with physique than anything. Obviously your girlfriends are smarter than that but many girls arent looking for smarts or even a long term partner. 'macho, powerful, dominant' crap also is a coping mechanism with dealing with smarter guys on the playing field, how else is a dumb guy going to compete? Your going to need that testosterone and confidence to talk to complete strangers and thats what building a physique and ego is. If you look good you will feel good as well. Have you ever seen a ugly asshole with hot girl? Unless hes rich its very unlikely.

However men are also *expected* to be dominant in the relationship. Its a patriarchal society and men are expected to ask the girl out, provide for her and get on one knee. Indeed in the relationship they treat each other like equals but women literally have the pick of the litter and we men have to fight over it. For girls all they need to do is look pretty and they can pick the advances of any guy they want smart or dumb.

By my own standards im actually mostly asshole. I'm somewhat self centered, Ive easily called girls on and shit, I really care little about any feelings whatsoever. But i don't get enough girls to sleep around nor do i know anyone with 80k care. Overall I would say im honest nice guy and in the end that's my undoing. I'm too honest and nice actually and try to suppress those things around girls though I fail miserably.

Anyway if any of your hot friends is looking for a date tell them to check me out on OKC. Same name.

Perhaps, although I'd bet it stops people from using the same password everywhere more than it stops people from using a process to come up with good passwords.

I'm aware of three processes commonly used to come up with good passwords:

    1. Randomly generate something

    2. Use the first letters of a memorable phrase, possibly with number and symbol substitutions

    3. Use the entirety of a memorable phrase.

Most password restrictions only eliminate the third option, and I've only ever (personally) known one person who uses it.

There is no easy way to have this conversation. However, the most awkward pre-emptive conversation is much less difficult than the conversation when she contracts it from you. Do the best you can! It will always be better than the alternative!

It is true, that 50-80% of the population is exposed to the human papilloma virus (HPV - the virus that causes genital warts), but seeing as you have each only been with one partner before each other - you will likely not get away with it - even if you could - it is probably not the best way to go if you actually care about her!

She may freak out - it's true - she may leave you - but that will be her choice. Let her choose.

On an asside - as a 3rd year medical student - she's going to have to buck up! She's in for much much worse.

Anyways, good luck with the conversation! If she's worth it (and you are to her) you will make it past this!

(By the way - I've been faced with this situation myself and my GF is sitting beside me right now)

You say that there is this taboo which gets all uppity when related people bump uglies, and that's fine. Then you tell me that this taboo has a "rubric" and first cousins are somehow exempt, US laws be damned. By making exemptions for this "universal taboo," however, you are slowly going to polish the tenant into nothing. I could always resort to the "one tribe in Africa you've never heard of" argument until your boulder turns into a grain of sand.

Definitially, murder is just killing which the law of the land does not condone. Warfare and capital punishment are both examples of killing which it does. To say that it's a universal taboo that you shouldn't break the laws of your culture seems a little silly and redundant. Regardless of anyone's personal stance on pacifism, it must strike you as odd to note the variance of capital punishment laws from state to state when trying to draw a line in the sand that marks the difference between murder and not murder.

Sorry, forgot to mention in the title that this is a US Government sponsored (funded) commercial free 24-Hour News channel. Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia.

"Alhurra (or al-Hurra) (Arabic: الحرّة‎; strict transliteration al-Ḥurra IPA: [ɛ̈l ħʊrrɛ̈], "The free") is a United States-based satellite TV channel, sponsored by the U.S. government. It began broadcasting on February 14, 2004 in 22 countries across the Middle East. U.S. Government sources generally refer to the channel as Al-Hurra. Like all forms of U.S. public diplomacy, the station is forbidden from broadcasting within the U.S. itself under the 1948 Smith-Mundt Act concerning the broadcast of propaganda."

At Georgia Tech, the correct response is "To Hell with Georgia." This goes back and forth three times, then someone yells "How 'bout them dawgs?"

To which the correct response is "piss on 'em". Then, depending on the day, one might yell something like "Gameday!!!" EX:

    What's the good word?

    To hell with georgia!

    What's the good word?

    I didn't generalize. I provided a truly horrifying statistic.

I would say that if I explicitly told a woman that I didn't want kids and she deliberately subverted my wishes and got herself pregnant, that I would feel raped. And 42% of women are rapists.

And since I can remove the hypothetical and tell you that I have been raped by a woman in a situation similar to this in the past, your protestations to the contrary about the overall innocence of the female gender are anecdotally and quantifiably false. As for you not caring whether I want to "hear it", don't ask then.

There is a deeper underlying issue here where women, who have had 100% of the reproductive power over the last 50 years are anxious because some of that power is being taken away from them. And more and more men are waking up to that every day.

I once dreamt I was a dead black man and had come up with an awesome song

I knew it would be an instant hit, I immediately began to scribble everything I had heard upon waking up. When I realized what I had written it started:

"It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark

Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart

You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it

You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes

    You're paralyzed"

than I looked in the mirror, I was a WHITE WOMAN.
